House Django

House Django is a bespoke contemporary residence designed by Gerhard Architect within Zululami Luxury Coastal Estate on KwaZulu-Natal's North Coast. Positioned on an elevated site overlooking the Indian Ocean and the estate's protected coastal greenbelt, the home was carefully designed to maximise panoramic views while creating a seamless connection between architecture, nature and modern coastal living.

Responding to the site's unique topography, the design balances privacy with openness through clean architectural forms, natural materials and expansive glazing. A central landscaped courtyard fills the home with natural light, encourages passive ventilation and creates a calm transition between the private and social spaces. Every design decision was made to strengthen the relationship between the home and its surrounding landscape.

Contemporary Coastal Living

Designed for both everyday family life and entertaining, the open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas extend effortlessly onto generous outdoor terraces, a rim-flow swimming pool and landscaped gardens. Large sliding glass doors dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, allowing the coastal climate and uninterrupted ocean views to become part of the living experience.

Sustainability was embedded into the project from the earliest stages of the design process. Passive solar orientation, natural cross ventilation, high-performance glazing and energy-efficient building principles work together to create a home that is comfortable throughout the year while reducing long-term energy consumption.
